Please don’t hesitate to contact us regarding any decorative or architectural concrete application not listed. We understand concrete; its properties and application possibilities, and we love a challenge!
Set In Stone was created by Doug Chase, a hard working artisan, family man, and entrepreneur. How is Doug qualified to design and build your concrete project? Doug has extensively devoted his self to researching and developing the means of producing one of a kind concrete works. He developed his passion and skill for material design and sculpture while thoroughly engaged in Weber State University’s Bachelor of Fine Art program. In 2007 he turned his focus to concrete as his material of choice; both for its inherent flexibility as well as concrete’s connection to art, design, and human history.
Most of our countertop, sink, and furniture work we will precast in our studio where we have the most control over important variables during the casting, curing, and sealing process. If a project is sufficiently large or has other unique formal needs that cannot be addressed through precasting remotely, Set In Stone will form the elements and pour the concrete on site.
Popular decorative concrete products can bear a warm, natural look which accent and enhance other materials used within the same structural space.
When color is added to concrete using pigments or dyes and attention given to the surface finish (from natural bare texture to gloss polish), a finished concrete piece can invoke the essence of quarried, polished, or any “natural state” stone.
Because concrete starts off in a liquid, malleable state, this opens the door for the decorative concrete artisan and home owner to explore formal designs not available via conventional countertop surface material; such as custom: countertop forms, sink shapes, and inlays. Each slab or other work is hand cast by detail oriented artisans, this ensures you will have a one of a kind product that will last for generations.
Inserts and Inlays: Any material added to or laid in concrete during the creation process. Inlays can be utilitarian in nature such as drainboards, trivets, and cutting boards. Inlays can also serve a primarily decorative purpose in order to personalize the work such as: embed sea shells, decorative stone, and metal.
Surface finishes: Surface finishes range from semi-gloss to high gloss. The amount of perceived gloss often depends on sealer used in conjunction with surface color and texture. Contact us for details.
Color possibilities are also virtually endless. Most colors render pastel because of the inherent grayness of the concrete. More vivid colors are possible, but are more difficult to achieve.
Pigment can be added to concrete slurry during mixing or a color stain can be applied after concrete has cured.
Depending on the treatment, a surface can be uniformly colored or present a marbled appearance.
*Note: Monitor color rendering varies depending on personal settings. These colors should be viewed as an approximation.
Color possibilities exist outside of this range of samples but will have to be custom mixed which may add to project budget and timeframe.
